Reviews for The Forest of Hands and Teeth

The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan

This zombie book is about a girl who lives in a village in the future when zombies have overtaken the United States. Or the unconsecrated, which is what they call the zombies. If you are bitten by the zombies, you become one as well.

The village has a fence around it to keep the unconsecrated out. The zombies go crazy over the scent of a human. So all day long, there are zombies at the fence, moaning and pulling and trying to get in. That is what the people hear all their lives.

This girl wonders if there is more life out there than her village and forest. She leaves the village and tries to find out the truth.

There is a bit of romance and suspense as well as creepiness with the undead. It was a good read, because you are always wondering what she will find out and ultimately, will she become a zombie?

This is a young adult novel set in a postapocalyptic world. The readers are never given an actual date but civilization is several generations removed from where we are now.

The protagonist of the novel is Mary. She lives in a small village set in the forest. The villagers call it the Forest of Hands and Teeth because of the zombies that live there.

Mary feels that there is a world outside of her village and wants to visit the ocean as she saw an old photograph of it when she was young. Zombies overrun her village and Mary is forced to flee with her brother and a few of her friends.

This is a great novel and I really enjoyed it. I am looking forward to the sequel that came out this year. I would definitely recommend it to a friend as it gives a different perspective of the aftermath of a zombie outbreak.
